Sam is a member of the church where I went as a child and young adult. His wife was in the choir as was my mom. I used to walk and raise funds for the CROP Walk-for hunger, and he would always donate for the cause; I mowed his lawn a couple of seasons too as a young teen.
About 9 months ago, while doing yoga he became totally paralyzed, and no one seems to know why – the yoga probably didn’t do it, that’s just when it happened.
Friends, relatives, members of the church volunteer to go read and visit Sam. Mom went yesterday for a couple of hours. I imagine she told him all about their travels, and read. She was quite excited to tell me that Christopher Reeve’s family is donating Christopher’s wheel chair for Sam to use, at no cost except to make adjustments to the seat as they are different body sizes. You can use your breath, by blowing, to maneuver the chair left or right.... sounds amazing. Mom said to be sure to tell A. & N. about it.
All these “bad” things happen, and from it “good things” happen. It sounds so contrite, I am sure, but I am heartened to know good, caring people are out there in our daily lives.
